KW coilovers Variant 3+ for special edition model: Audi A1 quattro
A high and fast flexibility is what the suspension manufacturer KW automotive characterizes. KW regularly develops and produces coilovers for limited small series in superior quality made of aluminum or stainless steel. Even for the Audi A1 quattro, which is worldwide built in a limited edition of only 333 pieces, we have KW coilovers Variant 3+ available. With the KW coilover kit which is adjustable in its damping characteristics, the Audi special edition can be lowered continuously by up to 50 mm within the TÜV-tested adjustment range. Similar to the KW competition racing suspension kits which are used in motor sports, driver of the Audi A1 quattro can adjust rebound and compression damping of their KW Variant 3+ separately.
Worldwide, renowned refiners, tuner, large and small series manufacturers such as Alpina, MTM, Manthey or Oettinger rely on the suspension solutions of KW. “All of our coilovers have a vehicle-specific basic setup,” said Johannes Wacker, KW Product Manager, “which even increases the driving dynamics of the A1 quattro significantly.” In combination of the standard wheels with the KW coilover kit Variant 3+, the 252-hp special edition goes even more dynamic and direct. “In addition to test drives on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the highway, well-constructed country roads and side streets, we have determined the basic damper setup for the A1 quattro on the KW 7post driving dynamic test rig.”
Separate compression and rebound damping adjustment for an even sportier road position
Also the KW coilovers Variant 3+ for the Audi A1 quattro have integrated adjustment wheels for a fast and individual adjustment of the KW basic setup. The adjustment wheel which is integrated at the bottom of the damper housing allows to directly adjust the compression damping manually with twelve precise clicks. Tools are not required and to adjust the compression, the suspension kit does not even have to be deinstalled. By the adjustable compression damping, the driver can take influent on potential rolling motions of the A1 body, without having to change the rebound damping which is optimally matching the spring rate. The rebound valve which is adjustable with 16 clicks separately from the compression, allows to adjust the damping characteristics also to new tires and larger wheels. “If for example the used run-flat tires might cause a loss of comfort, the KW suspension can be adjusted more comfortable with the rebound”, said KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. If the A1 quattro driver wants to reduce the body movements in the border area, he can change the basic setup with the rebound damping to make it even tighter.
Continuous KW lowering for more individuality
Via the dirt-resistant KW trapezoid thread, the lowering can be adjusted at the front axle directly at the stainless steel strut of the KW coilover kit Variant 3+. The level can be adjusted continuously between 20 and 50 mm within the TÜV-tested adjustment range. At the rear axle height adjustment, the Audi A1 quattro can individually be lowered from 15 to 45 mm, to further emphasize the sportiness of the special model.
