Caractère’s main activity is the design and marketing of body styling equipment for vehicles of marques belonging to the VAG group. Alain Hurard, the founder of the company and a designer by training, has been designing, developing and marketing the products in the “Caractère” range with the aid of his dynamic team since 1992.

Consisting of complete front bumper for cars with original fog lights, side skirts, boot spoiler and rear bumper fascia with or without exhaust tips (left & right). Caractere says the kit, which comes with a 5 year warranty against defects, will be availabel towards the end of the year.

Caractère products are manufactured in PU RIM from the outset in Germany to ISO 9000, approved by the German TUV in PU RIM. This latter method of manufacture brings a number of advantages, for instance, a very high finish of injection-moulded products, and the rapidity of the rate of production. In addition, the flexibility of the material makes mounting easy, and means that our products are compatible with the new 2005 European standards on pedestrian safety.

Revo Technik has been working with MED17 for over a year now and everyone at Revo Technik is thrilled with the results from the fine tuning of their 1.4TSi (140 bhp) turbocharged and supercharged VW Golf and 1.8TFSi turbocharged Audi A3 that has been completed over recent months.

As Revo Technik’s Director of Engineering, Todd Williams, explains; “This is a fantastic achievement and it exemplifies the talents and abilities of the Revo Technik team. Unlike many other performance software companies, Revo Technik has the ability to develop its own tools and technology in-house. This allows us to provide the very best performance products on the most recent VAG vehicles. The new Revo Technik performance software for the MED17 ECU has initially been developed for these two new engines, with outstanding results!”

The new Revo Technik performance software for the MED17 ECU’s works with all of the standard features of the factory ECU including OBD port reflashing and Digital Signature code protection. The ECU is not removed from the vehicle, opened, or physically modified in any way. “We are particularly pleased that the new software is fully switchable between stock and performance modes, working with both our Select and Select Plus switches” adds Williams.

1.4 TSi (140)
“With its supercharger and turbo, the 1.4TSi engine provided a greater challenge to achieve the ultimate blend of performance and drivability from the software. As with all Revo Technik performance software, the tuning has been focussed on smoothness and driveability. The supercharger responds instantly in the bottom half of the rev range, and above 4000 rpm, its all turbo, it just keeps going, pulling hard to red line. With its close ratio 6 speed gear box the car just flies, it feels very fast.”

The 1.4 TSi is now running over 205 bhp with Revo Technik software, it’s a massive gain. The car is flexible and eager, with a
responsive mid range and a lot of power over 4,500 rpm, it really shines in the top rev ranges and feels very strong. Also, this 1.4 TSi (140) now has as much torque as the stock 1.8TFSi!

1.8TFSi
The new 1.8TFSi engine (sister engine to the new ’08 2.0TSi/TFSi) is nothing like the old 1.8T. It’s a new engine with the new engine management system, MED17. Yet again, the Revo Technik performance software has taken a VAG engine to a new dimension. The torque at 3-4000rpm is incredible, very similar to the 2.0TDi with Revo Technik software! Peak power is at 5,700 rpm and its still over 200 bhp at 6,800 rpm; in fact it’s over 200bhp from 4000rpm to red line.

“It’s so smooth, and really driveable, you can do what you want, in any gear you want. It’s as good as a torquey Diesel below 4K, and every bit a performance turbocharged petrol above 4K.” adds Williams.

Both of these Revo Technik development cars have been transformed. The team has been striving for the ultimate in tuning and the hours they have spent working with these cars on the dyno and on the road has delivered an excellence in performance that is unrivalled for this latest generation of engines.

At ABT Sportsline’s development department, the quality is tested under toughest conditions on the brand new engine and roller test stand: here, the power upgrades are tested with engines running under real conditions – without mercy, right to the limits – and beyond. “We demand high performance the client can rely on”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. A client who, for example, has his vehicle featuring a 3.0 TDI upgraded from 240hp (177kW) to torquey 310hp (228kW) can be sure that the durability of the optimized engine really has been put through its paces.

No matter which power package the client decides for, he can be certain that he will get ABT know-how: right from the beginning, the Kempten-based tuners have been pioneers in the field of electronic engine tuning. Optimizing the engine management of diesel and petrol cars means that “performance-relevant software parameters are specifically adapted to achieve sporty characteristics and an ideal overall setup”, says Andreas Zeilbeck, technical director. This optimal utilization of the engine potential is called ABT Power. To those looking for even more power, ABT Power S is the perfect package: here, too, the engine management is optimized; moreover, an ABT turbocharger provides for even more engine power. The performance data of the engine versions stand for open-air driving pleasure: with ABT Power the 2.0 TFSI offers sporty 240hp (177kW) instead of 200hp (147kW); with ABT Power S 270hp (199kW) are provided. With ABT Power the serial 160hp (118kW) of the 1.8 TFSI can be increased to 200hp (147kW), or to 240hp (177kW) with ABT Power S.

What the famous car tuner from the Allgäu understands of a real sun-worshipping convertible already show the ABT Eos and the ABT TT Roadster: for the Volkswagen convertible as well as for the open version of the successful model from Ingolstadt, the ABT team developed body styling parts which accentuate the character of each vehicle and which let them appear even more distinctive from every perspective: the low front spoiler, the side skirts and the rear skirt inset with the typical 4-pipe rear muffler emphasize the sporty ambitions of the fancy ABT Eos and give it a self-confident appearance. Even more so with the BR wheel which seems to have the urge to move forward, even when standing still. It goes without saying that this wheel also fits the TT Roadster like a glove because this breathtaking vehicle appears very dynamical even without the Allgäu body kit. The team from Kempten turns the open-roof TT into a real athlete which looks like a 100-meter sprinter ready to start: the front skirt, the lateral body parts, the rear skirt inset and the rear wing are forming a successful unit, in every respect. With this modifications, the sports car does not only cut a good figure on country roads and motor-ways but also on the boulevard.

Either closed or opened, a real ABT does not only look fast, it is in fact fast. This ensure the diverse ABT POWER packages for the Eos and the TT Roadster which actually satisfy performance hunger: with ABT POWER, the 2.0 TFSI engine is increased from serial 200hp (147kW) to 240hp (177kW). With ABT POWER S even 270hp (199kW) or remarkable 300hp (221kW) are provided. The sportiest version ABT offers is for the 6-cylinder engine with 3.2 liter cubic capacity: ABT POWER R stands for optimization of the motor management and for compressor conversion with water cooled intercooler.

In figures this means a proud power increase of 120hp (88kW). 370 authentic horsepower (272kW) are offered with ABT POWER R. Also the 2.0 liter diesel engine in the Eos becomes sportier: the serial 140hp (103kW) can be increased to powerful 170hp (125kW). ABT Sportsline, of course, also offers perfectly adjusted suspension components and brakes for the fast convertibles. This enables the ABT Eos and the ABT TT Roadster to cope with every situation and to offer pure driving pleasure. These positive characteristics are exactly what also the new ABT AS3 Cabrio will offer - and hence will continue the success story of the open sports cars from the Allgäu…

ABT Sportsline Parts

Thankfully for consumers, diesel engines are finally gaining a foothold in the performance car market as technology allows them to rev more freely and the seriously big torque they are capable of becomes more widely appreciated.

Furthermore, aftermarket tuners like Germany’s Senner-Tuning have a number of performance upgrades designed to work with the latest in diesel powertrain technologies such as its new White Speed package for the Audi A5 3.0 TDI.

Once Senner-Tuning has its way with it, the diesel coupe will be able to accelerate all the way to 175mph (280km/h). Output from the turbodiesel V6 engine has been boosted to 300hp (224kW) – up from 240hp (179kW) – and 450lb-ft (610Nm) of torque.

The car’s body and interior have also been extensively modified, receiving a host of new carbon-fiber accessories and 21in alloy wheels with 295mm Hankook tires. Finally, the car also rides on a new sports suspension set-up that lowers the ride height by a full 40mm.

The acceleration duration 0-100km/h is lowered to an enormous value of 4.6 seconds in the final stage - while Vmax level is on 280km/h. To reach these performance values, B&B mounts a special turbo loader, a sport exhaust system with a special pre exhaust system and a high performance sports catalyst as well as an electronical tuning, perfectly harmonizing with these components.
