Italian brake manufacturer Tarox has just announced the launch of its extensive Carbon Ceramic ultra-high performance braking range. The new discs draw heavily on Tarox’s extensive motorsport experience - which goes all the way up to F1 level.

The new parts are aimed at two markets. Firstly, as superior performing, cost-effective replacements for vehicles that were factory fitted with CC discs, and secondly, to be combined with Tarox calipers as the ultimate motorsport fitment for teams looking for unparalled performance combined with extended durability and heat handling capability.

TAROX Carbon Ceramic brakes offer significantly greater retardation over a wide heat range, thanks to their unique construction. The discs feature a continuous monolithic fibre structure which avoids the need of a specified layer of friction material. This construction method provides a far stronger disc structure as well as offering the added benefit that the disc can be resurfaced and reused.

Most commercially available carbon ceramic discs are of a two part moulded cut fibre structure featuring a ‘core’ and a ‘friction surface’. The core is usually a lesser material with typically, a 0.5mm bonded layer of friction material bonded on top.

However, the continuous fibre monolithic structure of the TAROX carbon ceramic discs equates to a higher thermal conductivity, allowing the brake rotor to achieve lower bulk temperatures during a braking application. The cooler running temperatures directly lower the oxidation rate of the disc improving its lifespan. This also benefits the lifespan of the brake pad.

The rate of wear on Carbon Ceramic discs is determined by oxidation - a process that occurs at high temperature when the rotor is exposed to the air around it. Oxidation levels are measured in terms of weight loss and surface texture. The disc surface will begin to feel rough with the onset of oxidation.

Due to the superior design structure, when compared to a typical composite ceramic disc the TAROX discs are 43% stronger when destruction tested back to back.

TAROX Carbon Ceramic disc 23.7 kJ of energy required @ 7400 rpm (560mph)
Typical Carbon Ceramic disc 16.6 kJ of energy required @ 6250 rpm (470mph)

TAROX Carbon Ceramic discs have been dyno tested against typical ceramic discs to monitor deterioration at key temperature ranges.  The following figures show a comparison;

TAROX Carbon Ceramic disc 4 hour cycle @ 900 °C resulted in a 12.5% loss of weight
Typical Carbon Ceramic disc 4 hour cycle @ 900 °C resulted in a 19 % loss of weight

TAROX Carbon Ceramic disc 4 hour cycle @ 700 °C resulted in a 7.5% loss of weight
Typical Carbon Ceramic disc 4 hour cycle @ 700 °C resulted in a 15% loss of weight

The range launches with 23 fitments, covering outside diameters from 283mm right up to 420mm and features a wide range of thicknesses from 26mm to 40mm. In other words, almost all commercially required sizes.

KW automotive is now offering coilovers with dynamic damping control for a wide range of vehicles. Automobiles not yet fitted with damping control will enjoy a sporty upgrade thanks to the new KW Dynamic Damping Control Electronic Control (DDC ECU) coilovers, whose "Comfort", "Sport", and "Sport +" modes deliver a noticeable change in damping characteristics.

As well as the modes designed by the KW suspension developers and test engineers, drivers also have the option of configuring their own damping setups intuitively using a free iPhone app. The dampers' charactertistics can be adjusted independently of the front and rear axle. The continous damper adjustment allows the user to adjust the suspension dampers individually according to their own needs and preferences — from the maximum comfort setting with very soft damping (displayed in the app as 0%) through to the stiffest damper setup (displayed in the app as 100%). Depending on the user-programmed setup, the vehicle can therefore react more comfortably than in the preprogrammed "Comfort" mode or with an even tighter damping rate than in the "Sport+" mode. Once the user has found their perfect, personal setup for their vehicle, they can save it for future use. Memory banks are provided for five personal setups. Saved damper settings can even be emailed to friends, and setups for different racetracks can be exchanged within the clubsport community.

"Tuning 2.0"

It is necessary to install an add-on module so that the iPhone can communicate with the KW DDC ECU coilovers via a secure WLAN connection. First presented at the Essen Motor Show from November 26th to December 4th 2011, the KW DDC ECU coilovers are available for the Audi A3, A4, A5, A6 including S-line models, and other cars. The "iPhone Coilovers" will be available for further vehicles in early 2012. In the longer term, apps are also being developed for Android smartphones.

Compatible with the KW Hydraulic Lift System

The KW DDC ECU coilovers are prepared using Inox-Line stainless-steel technology and, as well as top-notch KW quality, offer the TÜV-tested adjustment range of a renowned KW coilover suspension. Furthermore, they are also compatible with Hydraulic Lift System Kits (HLS).

The KW DDC coilover suspension with ECU is available from 2,599 euros, and the add-on module for wireless communication between smartphone and suspension is available for 299 euros. In time for the 2012 season, the free app allowing individual damper configuration is available for download in the App Store. The suspension comes supplied with the appropriate TÜV parts certificate and vehicle-specific installation instructions, so it can be installed easily and entered into the vehicle documents.

Detailed information on the broad product spectrum of suspension-specialists KW automotive GmbH, including suspension springs, dampers, stabilizers, and complete and coilover suspensions, as well as application lists, can be found online at www.KWsuspensions.de

Choosing a wheel for your AUDI is a very complicated task. If you are looking for a very exclusive high end premium quality wheel, the RSQ.1 wheel is perfect for you.

RS QUATTRO has developed the RSQ.1 wheel, a very exclusive high end premium quality wheel developed in collaboration with ADV.1 who manufactures the wheels exclusively for RS QUATTRO. Fitment is available for all Audi models as each wheel is custom-built.

The "RSQ.1” has simply no compromise on quality and technical aspects. The wheels are based on ADV1’s 3 piece forged TRACK SPEC “contoured” spec. With hardly no limitations to what an end customer would dream for his car, we can have them made in diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches, widths ranging from 8 to 15 inches, with any offset, OEM bolt pattern, center hub exact match avoiding the need for center rings, and last but not least unlimited finishes such as car color matching, brushed, polished, chrome, gunmetal, silver… whatever you think of, RS QUATTRO promises it can build it!

The track spec contoured design is composed of a center disc that extends over the first step & utilizes specifically engineered ADV1 proprietary forging die designed to provide a deep concave profile and a unique, individually engineered spoke contour which extends beyond the rim register and up above the step lip.

The design provides not only strength but an incredible look unlike any other wheel. The Step Lip designed outer rim half is an amazing piece, it’s both lighter and stronger than the standard reverse outer rim half. In most cases step lip designs made the wheel look smaller due to the center disc sitting inside the smaller diameter opening as the step lip itself is wider, but this step lip Contoured Center Disc feature solved that issue by providing the strength and performance of a classic step lip.

The inner rim halves or barrels feature a design compatible only to its corresponding step lip outer which eliminates the common water retention issue found in most 3 piece wheels. Standard rim halves have a recessed area which allows water to build up during rain which in turn causes vibration. The Step lip inner and outer combination eliminates the issue.

Standard finishes include: High polished outers, raw inners, Brushed, gloss black or matte black centers. Custom finishes are available as well.

Wheels from ADV.1 are never cheap and these RS QUATTRO wheels are no exception. But if you're in the market for wheels that promise the ultimate in quality and exclusivity while retaining the OEM "Audi" feel, these RSQ.1 wheels may just be what you need.

North American performance powerhouse STaSIS Engineering has recently unveiled its latest offering for Audi owners, the forged FD11 wheels. Designed for Audis, they measure in at 20” in diameter, and come in a range of sizes between 9 and 12”.

STaSIS forged wheels are extremely lightweight and strong, giving you better performance and maneuverability, reducing braking distances, improving acceleration and providing added security in extreme conditions. The high-density aluminium structure allows STaSIS forged wheels to be 27 percent lighter than cast wheels of the same size. They reduce unsprung weight on each corner of the vehicle compared to the equivalent cast wheel.

Forged with 300 tons of pressure from 6061 aluminium alloy, Stasis forged wheels are extremely lightweight and strong. The forging process produces a less porous aluminium structure, increasing density while retaining a high level of elasticity that allows the wheel to bend rather than crack under punishing conditions.

STaSIS wheels reduce unsprung weight on each corner of the vehicle compared to the equivalent cast wheel, improving vehicle performance and maneuverability, reducing braking distances, and speeding acceleration.

APR is pleased to present the world's first Supercharger Pulley and corresponding ECU Upgrade for the 3.0 TFSI. Without recalibrating the ECU found in Audi’s latest line of supercharged direct injected vehicles, pulley upgrades offer no advantage, as the supercharger will simply bypass boost pressure. With APR’s ability to expertly recalibrate the 3.0 TFSI Engine Control Unit, we are able to develop new hardware and calibrate the ECU to work properly as if intended by the factory.

Many enthusiasts coming from Audi’s history of turbocharged vehicles expected massive increases in torque, at lower RPMs, simply by adding an ECU Upgrade. Unlike turbochargers, roots style superchargers are positive displacement meaning they provide a fixed amount of air flow based on engine speed. On the 3.0TFSI Audi chose to use a bypass valve that bleeds off boost pressure when requested. Keeping the valve almost completely shut at lower RPMS allows them to make respectable torque, and, opening the valve at higher RPMs allows them to keep horsepower within their marketing goal. Consequently, the APR Stage I ECU upgrade provides a relatively low increase in torque but an exceptional increase in power. For those demanding more torque, The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade is the answer. Spinning the supercharger faster increases air flow and effectively doubles the low-end gains of Stage I. The gain in torque is felt immediately, but the results are present from beginning to end adding up to 80ft-lbs and 108 horsepower at all four wheels!

APR has chosen not to cut any corners and as such each APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade Kit includes a new supercharger belt. Furthermore, all existing APR Stage I ECU Upgrade customers are entitled to a free APR Stage II+ ECU Upgrade required for proper functionality. Finally, every APR Pulley is E-Coated black for an OEM appearance.

Increased Supercharger Speed
The 3.0 TFSI uses an Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) Roots-type Supercharger unit, which features a four-lobe rotor design to safely run at high operating speeds. APR is no stranger to the Eaton TVS1320 Supercharger Unit having spent several years developing a Stage III Supercharger System for the High Revving Audi RS4 and S5 4.2L FSI V8. Through the years, APR's Engineering Teams placed even greater speed demands on the TVS1320 than offered to the public with a flawless track record.

A balance of power and reliability is always a concern when going beyond what Audi delivers from the factory and APR's Engineering Teams use accelerated life testing both in house and through professional motorsport racing to ensure years of Performance Without Compromise.

Increased Boost Pressure
Unlike turbochargers, superchargers boost pressure is nearly fixed in relation to engine speed. The factory supercharger unit features an electronically controlled bypass valve which bleeds off boost pressure when mass airflow and load levels increase past the power requirements set from the factory. The APR ECU upgrade prevents boost from bleeding back into the intake system, resulting in higher boost levels. However, boost pressure is still limited by the size and the speed of the supercharger.

The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade increases the RPM of the supercharger resulting in an increase of boost pressure all the way to redline. This results in torque you can feel off idle all the way to redline.

Carbonio's latest carbon fiber intake for the 3.0 TFSI engine is a ram air design that completely separates the intake filter from the engine bay. Building from years of experience on and off the race track, Carbonio's and APR's engineering teams have spent countless hours developing a true cold air and ram air carbon fiber design that can be recreated affordably for the street performance enthusiast.

Carbonio and APR have kept all oem specifications necessary to integrate cohesively with an otherwise stock engine to avoid raising eyebrows at the dealership. Flexibility was another characteristic of Carbonio's and APR's design whereas the new TFSI intake is also suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 modified engines all the way up to future supercharger upgrades.

Constructed of aerospace grade carbon fiber and designed to remove intake restriction, APR’s Carbonio intake system provides smoother transitional airflow, increased air velocity, superior insulation of the incoming air to reduce intake air temperatures and a larger volume of available air to aid throttle response.
