And then there is MTM, the maker of exclusively equipped cars – mostly Audis and Volkswagen. Managed by Roland Mayer, owner of the company, MTM engineers have got to work on the 4.2 litre TDI that is deployed in the A8, as well as in the Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg. By no means weak with 350 HP, but with enough potential for much more power at a low engine speed as well at the upper end of the rev range.

Tried and tested methods are used to increase power: standard engine management is out, MTM systems are in. When a V-Cantronic is deployed in the A8, it is true that performance remains the same at 350 HP, but the high speed of the saloon is no longer abruptly suppressed at 250 kph. The limit doesn’t kick in until 282 kph. This version only comes with the A8. It takes a good two hours of skilled workmanship and is available at less than € 1,400.

Those who want to compete in the Champions League with their V8 TDI can get themselves into the top division of the engine speed league for just under € 1,800. As well as 410 HP, the MTM high-tech laboratory gives you 930 Nm of torque – for a hold that could rip up paving stones.

No less powerful, but around €100 cheaper, is the MTM version that uses an M-Cantronic. Those who are looking for more than the top class power output of 930 Nm, however, are catered for by MTM with a combination of the M-Cantronic and V-Cantronic, which slow down the engine speed limitation at 250 kph. This additional “powerhouse doping” costs less than €2,700 and is only available for the A8.

Starting with a 2008 model, MR Car Design wanted to obtain the same look as with the new generation Q7. For this, the tuner added new daytime running lights, an LED indicator strip, 22-inch alloy wheels MRGT22 in 9.5 inch width, and Icebear W300 tires. For the cabin, customers can opt to borrow the steering wheel from the current Audi RS6 - a special request option by MR Car Design.

For an output upgrade, the 4.2 liter TDI diesel engine gets a new K & N air filter and some ECU optimization that dials power up to 374 PS/275 kW (series 326 PS/240 kW) and 870 Nm (642 lb-ft) of torque (series 760 Nm/560 lb-ft). MR Car Design also offers to lift the "tiresome" (as they describe it) Vmax and remove any electronic speed limit.

Inside, the cabin boasts leather / Alcantara upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and LED ambient lighting. Interestingly enough, there's also a matching car seat which ensures your baby will become the envy of the auto club.

Besides the styling tweaks, Anderson outfitted the 6.0-liter V12 TDI with a revised ECU and high-flow air filters. This enables the engine to produce 550 PS (405 kW / 542 hp) - an increase of 50 PS (37 kW / 49 hp).

To start with the 3.0-litre standard diesel version produces 233 hp (171 kW). By optimising the engine control unit, JE DESIGN raises this figure to 285 hp (210 kW). As a result the maximum torque from the compression-ignition engine increases from 500 to 550 Newton metres and the top speed from 210 to 219 kph. The 2.3-tonne vehicle reaches the 100-kph mark in a mere 8.4 seconds instead of the 9.1 seconds needed by the standard version.

The new software for the engine control unit is provided by JE DESIGN for only 1499 Euro including VAT. This even includes a one-year warranty on the motor, turbo-charger, gearbox and drivetrain and which, for only 199 Euro, can be extended for a further year, as long as the vehicle is not more than two years old and has driven fewer than 100,000 kilometres. In their own workshop in Leingarten, Germany, the optimising process takes only three to four hours. Alternatively JE DESIGN can have the engine control unit picked up by courier and deliver it again the next day.

The vehicle's assertive road presence is achieved by the wide body design. Using it, JE DESIGN makes the Ingolstadt vehicle take on an enormous width and gives the SUV an aggressive presence. The transformation covers the front spoiler corners which JE DESIGN offers for the Q7 S-Line in pairs, with and without the wide body kit (690 Euro), the twelve-part flared wheel arch kit including the door trim (2699 Euro), and the rear bumper extension with lozenge-shaped double exhaust outlets on both sides (1798 Euro). The forbidding look facing forward is achieved by the headlight covers (99 Euro). At the rear the spoiler tail unit, which in addition covers the C-pillars (1099 Euro), ensures the required down-force and puts the finishing touch to the uncompromising exterior.

The entire JE DESIGN Wide Body kit is not reserved only for the S-Line models. The engineers at JE DESIGN have developed the wide construction so that it fits on all Q7 models regardless of year of manufacture and the Facelift Model (apart from the W12 TDI).

The electronic lowering (1428 Euro) on the one hand improves the JE DESIGN Q7's sporty appearance and at the same time heightens the SUV's passion for bends. At 35 millimetres nearer to ground level, the powerful vehicle definitely provides a livelier ride round bends and obstacles.

Inside the extended wheel arches, the SUV-Select 10x22-inch light alloy wheels in particular attract the eye. The graphite-silver rims with the polished edge strip and Ultra-High Performance 295/30-size tyres are available from JE DESIGN for 5190 Euro. The wheel spacers move the wheels at the front 60 millimetres, and on the rear axle 80 millimetres outwards so that they fit flush with the wider body (409 Euro). The steering angle limiter ensures the wheels cannot touch the chassis (49 Euro).

With the Q7 Wide Body kit, JE DESIGN turns the Audi Q7 S-Line into an SUV with overpowering domination on the road. The combination of 22-inch wheels, the lowering and the increase in performance demonstrates the high standards set by the customizer from Leingarten. There is still a long time until 1st January 2015, but even now car manufacturers are wondering how they will be able to meet the exhaust emission standard Euro 6 which will come into force on this date. For tuners it is also important to actively deal with the coming conditions. “It is our task to meet the growing demands of ecologically sensible mobility so that the driving enjoyment still remains”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt, the General Manager of ABT Sportsline, the innovative company rich in tradition from Bavaria. As a result the “ABTs” are not just looking at alternative drive concepts, but also at the legal requirements of tomorrow. “The three litre turbo diesel in our ABT Q7 already meets some of the stricter regulations compared to European Standard 5, and further vehicles and engines are currently being planned and will be certified by TUV Rheinland”, explains Hans-Jürgen Abt.

In fact the tests only have to be "officially" performed after 1st September 2014, to check whether a new vehicle model meets the strict emission limits for carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and fine dust particles. Particularly with regards to nitrogen dioxide, hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide, European legislators are demanding much lower limits. As a result from 2015 just 80mg/km of nitrogen oxide will be allowed to be emitted, compared to 180 mg/km as was previously the case. The ABT Q7 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel is the first vehicle from Bavaria product range to meet this standard – the future begins now at ABT Sportsline.
